TRA worked with elected and appointed officials to push for funding for the Texas-Oklahoma Passenger Rail Study, the DFW-Houston High-Speed Rail Study, the state-owned South Orient Railroad and for improvements throughout the state to move people and goods. TRA was involved in bringing parties together to help secure Tower 55 funding to fix the worst freight rail chokepoint in the Western U.S. TRA is a stakeholder in the TxDOT Texas State Rail Plan. TRA was instrumental in the Constitutional Amendment (Prop 1) overwhelmingly passed by voters in 2005 that created the Rail Relocation and Improvement Fund (Appropriated Fund 0306). TRA was the primary stakeholder that pushed for a Rail Division at the Texas Department of Transportation in 2009, the culmination of a 9 year cornerstone project.

TRA was formed in 2000 to educate and inform the public and private sector on the benefits of the then newly designated South Central High Speed Rail Corridor.
